Can my dog catch a cold from me?
The human cold can not be passed on to dogs and vice versa.

What can cause my dogs cold?
Common cause of a cough is kennel cough - a dry hacking cough and it is a very contagious disease. It can be passed from an infected dog and other dogs. They do not have to be in kennels to catch it . Its more common in the spring and summer months. This is something that would normally pass on its own at home although, in the younger or older dog, you may need a course of antibiotics from your vet to help fight the infection. This is why its so important to vaccinate against kennel cough. Speak to your vet about the vaccinations and remember prevention than cure.

There are other reasons that may cause your dogs cough. Lungworm is a parasite that enters your dogs system by ingesting the larvae carried by snails and slugs. The larvae will them migrate to the lungs and develop in to worms. The worms can cause serious health issues, ranging from coughing to anaemia and in more serious cases can cause death. This is prevented with worming treatment brought from your vets.

Dogs can also contract upper respiratory tract infections. This is presented as excessive coughing and sneezing and this may need antibiotics from your vet to help fight infection.

If you have any concerns with your dogs breathing or notice any excessive coughing and sneezing, then always talk to your vet.
