Learn how to look after your dog when fireworks are going off by learning some top tips from our resident vet, Becky.

Many dogs become stressed and frightened during Bonfire Night, and other firework-related events such as New Year’s Eve, so it is important to plan ahead and make sure your dog feels safe and comfortable as much as possible.

Walk and feed your dog earlier in the day
Dogs that suffer with anxiety during firework displays may not want to eat during the bangs and sparkles, so make sure to feed them earlier in the day before the festivities begin.
Walk your dog in day time so that they feel more at ease and are not tempted to run off when the fireworks are ignited at night time.

Create a safe hiding place for your dog
Dogs will feel safer if they have aa comfortable and familiar spot to sleep and relax in. Our resident vet Becky thinks that a dog bed under a table draped with blankets and one of your old jumpers would be the perfect, cosy spot for your dog to reside to when they are scared.

Prepare your dog
In the weeks before, get your dog used to their new hiding spot. This way they will feel comfort and familiarity and be happy to reside to their bed to feel comforted.

Turn up the TV or radio
You can also turn up the noise on your TV or radio to help drown out the sound of the fireworks. This may help to comfort your dog.
