It's Tip Tuesday once again on Risa's Kluttered Kitchen. This week I'm giving you my top tips for successful air frying.
1/preheat your air fryer. 2-3 minutes is good. Starts cooking immediately when your food gets in there.
2/use either parchment (perforated if possible) or foil (nonstick is perfect) for easy clean-up.
To make your own perforated parchment here's one of my videos:

3/use mayonnaise as your fat - I find it browns better than butter or oil spray
4/use instant pot trivet to hold bread so it doesn't go flying in the air

5/use non-propellant cooking spray
Lecithin makes the oil come out easier from the cooking spray but it is terrible for nonstick cookware and other surfaces. Find a cooking spray without lecithin. It's called non-propellant. I find that Shoprite has one, as does Pompeiian and Chosen Foods (if you can find it). If not, a Misto is the way to go. Many stores sell them. Just fill it with your oil of choice and pump it. Spray away! Walmart wants the cheapest price (but I got mine in a set of two at Bed Bath & Beyond - I don't know if they still sell them like that.) Here is a great price at Walmart
Misti

6/use pans for the size of your machine, if you intend to do real cooking and baking in it. They fit in the basket type too (just can't flip things when you cook in them.) Here is one I found online
Wilton has 6" and 7"
I found a 6" Bundt at Walmart

7/use mitts (either material or silicone) Treat the air fryer oven like a real oven - you were mitts when you use a real oven, use them for this too.
These are similar to the ones I have. Mine are old and unavailable.

8/use top rack for air fryer ovens - everything browns better. For air fryers that use a basket, just make sure to flip the food more often to get it evenly browned and crispy.
9/converting old recipes to air fryer recipes
Temperature should be 25 degrees less and time should be 20% less e.g. 400 degrees minus 25 degrees is 375 degrees
16 minutes- 20% is 3.2 min so it's about 12 min.
Good luck with your air frying.
My air fryer oven is the Power XL 6 quart air fryer. Here is a link to buy it: I got mine at Kohls last year but they don't sell my specific model any longer. Here is a link to the Power XL website:
